Two proposals to COP26

EARTH SOLIDARITY

Rotating Earth

Two proposals to COP26

If we want to stop destroying our environment and stop killing life on Earth, we must stop population growth, we must change our lifestyle by consuming less, controlling greed, and resisting the thirst for power. We must move radically and fast forward from the Modern System of warmongering,  from business rivalries, from Nation-State chauvinism, and from searching for economist industrial growth (…) to the Post-Modern System of world peace, of cooperative, united and friendly nations, of protected environment, of celebrating and worshiping life on Earth particularly human life, and of searching for happiness.

My name is Shodja. I am a 77 year-old male joining his voice to the voice of the former-15-and-now-18 year-old female Gretta who is leading the world in asking for the needed urgent radical change.

I am an Economician.

An economist is a specialist seeing and treating everything on this planet as merchandise, cheering for the growth of human activities and the violent exploitation of Earth’s natural resources, asserting lawful private ownership over nature and the right to dilapidating its finite resources for the enjoyment of a few generations without consideration for the long term future.

An economician is a specialist in charge of caring for people’s  welfare and happiness, caring for social and environmental beauty and harmony, for world peace, and for Humanity’s survival. We need less economists and more economicians and ecologists.

Sixty years ago, economic growth, a sign of prosperity, started reaching the critical point of becoming synonymous with unhealthy pollution growth, global warming, and gradually threatening life on Earth. In the 60s, some Economicians started warning that economic growth must be stopped. In the 70s that warning was expressed more loudly. It was highlighted, for example, by the Club of Rome, in their book: The Limit to Growth (1972)by Attali and Guillaume in France in their L’anti-économique, by The Anti-Samuelson book in the USA where President Nixon instituted on December 1970 an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Not enough. Fifty years later we are in a state of Emergency, needing urgently radical changes in our global system, economically, politically, socially, morally, religiously,… or perish.

With regards to the present life-threatening emergency situation, and in order to tackle the climate change that threatens  our very  existence on Earth, here are two proposals supposed to bring joy today and to save and prevent humanity from horrific eschatological pain tomorrow. Win-win proposals.

EARTH SOLIDARITY

proposals to COP26

In the name of EARTH SOLIDARITY, the two following proposals are made to be adopted by COP26, and acted upon in every Nation-States:

1)     Whereas climate change is a consequence of global warming, and global warming a result of human activity, and therefore reducing human activity a logical step to take,

Whereas the movement of Friday skipping school has already had a worldwide impact, and

Whereas the Covid pandemic showed environmental benefits by reducing activities,

Whereas it is time for humanity to cool-off and benefit from the spin-offs of our fantastic inventions and technological advances, unimaginable by our ancestors,

It is proposed to reducing the working week to 4 days a week, worldwideand the UN Secretary General to immediately proclaim Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as weekend holidays worldwide.

Time off to retreat, recess. Holy days for  a worldwide  celebration of the sacredness of life on Earth in a universal communion, moving humanity towards a cleaner environment, a less stressful life, and a more peaceful global society.

2)     In conjunction, and in order  to emphasize the sacredness of our life on Earth in our solar system, and to reinforcing Earth Solidarity through universal celebrations,

it is proposed for the UN Secretary General to proclaim Earth Holiday in celebrating each of the four change of season (equinoxes and solstices), calling for 3 extra holy days of reflection and of no polluting activities at each of the four occasions.

Winter holidays are already celebrated in many countries (Christmas), and the Spring equinox in many other countries (New Year). Christmas is not supposed to be a consumerism orgy.  When economists would point to lower consumer confidence, it would mean highercitizen wisdom.
